The Crash

During the Rural Cruise on June 18th, 2000, the unthinkable happened.  I skidded off the road and down a 20 ditch and totaled my Stealth.  There were seven of us heading down to a park in Cannon Falls.  We were on County 19 near Red Wing.  I was the lead car going along a series of 20mph curves.  I navigated the first two fine, but little did I know the third curve had gravel in the lane I was driving in.  As I was in the third turn, my right tires got into this gravel and pushed me to the shoulder.  I tapped on the brakes, but all that happened was I began to skid and I didn't slow down.  Right after the turn was an intersecting gravel road.  Of course this just added more gravel in my path.  20 feet after the road, my Stealth managed to go back onto the road and to the other side of the road.  We skidded off the left hand side of the road and down a 20 foot ditch.   Stacy and I managed just a few bumps and bruises, but my Stealth was totaled.   The grim pictures of the crash are below.

As you can see gravel was all over the right hand part of my lane.

After passing the gravel road, I began to skid across the road.

Ending up down this 20 foot ditch, which was full of boulders and rocks.

The front end sustained the most damage.

The front bumper was pushed in and even cracked the timing belt cover.

The Stealth rested on the drivers side in the ditch.  This caused this dent on the rear quarter panel.

Rear bumper pushed in, and ground effects are falling off.

Amazingly the interior wasn't compromised other than the air bags deploying.
