Cordia Mods
Cordias will benefit from the same modifications as other turbo cars.
- For my turbo Cordia the first mod was a K&N airfilter and I cut a good size
hole in the aircan.
- If you just bought a Cordia, consider having the plugs and wires changed,
because who knows when the last time that was done.
- Also do a compression check to make sure your engine is healthy. Once I
did this, I knew it was time to do a rebuild.
- Cordias have a catch can for oil fumes coming off the valve cover. There
is also a hose coming out of the catch can into the aircan. I'd recommend
disconnecting the hose to the aircan and put a breather filter like this on the aircan.
Here is a pic of the breather filter on my Cordia: pic1
- A good boost gauge should also be installed to make sure your Cordia is boosting
properly.
- After your boost gauge is in, then you can think about turning up the boost.
A boost controller can be a simple as a bleeder valve or as complicated as an
electronic one.
- The Cordias are not intercooled so before turning up the boost more than a
couple pounds, you might want to put an intercooler or add water injection to your Cordia.
- A Blowoff Valve would also be helpful. This will relieve some pressure on
the turbo and should allow for faster spoolup. A new custom intake pipe would have
to be fasioned for this.
- On unleaded models of Cordias, there are two catalydic converters. The
pre-cat and the main cat. Both of these can be gutted or replaced. This should
provide faster spool-up.
- The turbo on the Cordia is small. I'm planning on replacing mine with an
Eclipse 14B turbo. I'll need to hone the exhaust side to fit the existing exhaust
housing, but it looks like the coolant and oil lines match up fine.
- More fuel is going to be needed with higher boost. Either bigger injectors
or an additional injector and controller would be needed. Along with this a bigger
fuel pump would be needed.
There are not a lot heavily modded Cordias out there. These modification
ideas are mine. Some have been done, some haven't. Mod your Cordia at your own
risk!
